SAN MARCOS, Texas
– Multiple students at Texas State University were interviewed around school
during the week of Oct. 29, on the topic of sexual assault.
Students were
stopped and interviewed by other students in a Mass Communications 1313 class
and they were asked multiple questions regarding the topic of sexual assault on
campus.
“Sexual assault
is the invasion and violation of someone’s rights,” said Rylan Billings a Junior
at Texas State.

When most
students were asked if they had known of or experienced any kind of sexual assault,
the most common answer was no. However, there have been students who have known
someone who has gone through sexual assault.
“I have never experienced it, however my friend from high school
was sexually assaulted during our senior year,” said Victoria Peterson, a freshman
at Texas State. “It was a very scary moment to see a person I knew go through
something so horrible.”

Peterson is a freshman at Texas State and talked about all
the seminars and classes she has been to on the topic of sexual assault. She
believes that there is now more awareness and people are better prepared for
dealing with any kind of sexual assault. Ryan Acuna, a student, also spoke upon
the idea of ways to prevent sexual assault.
Acuna said that if someone were to see something that didn’t
seem right, that they need to be vocal about it and to not only look after yourself
but for those around you as well.
On Texas State’s campus, many have been advocating and
standing up against sexual assault. The school’s goal is to ultimately eliminate
any kind of sexual assault that is reported or seen. Students believe that the
school should have no tolerance towards the issue.
“They should punish any kind of sexual assault
in any form by expelling the student,” said Peterson.
Texas State University has seen some forms of
sexual assault this year. In attempt to stop any kind of assault, please
