Move over Alicia Keys, make way for Tamara Brown!

What is the purpose of college? For many, the word brings to mind a whiteboard, a professor, and a large host of featureless faces dutifully scribbling down notes, glancing sidelong at a clock as it slowly winds its inevitable course. It is an institution of learning, exploring, and discovering a passion in a world of choices and opportunities. This ideal is personified in Tamara Brown.

Brown is a 21 year old Hill Country native, born in Austin, Texas and attended schools through Austin Independent School District until her path brought her to Westlake High School. While attending Westlake, her interests ranged from volleyball to choir while juggling the demands of education and a bustling social life. Although volleyball is no longer a hobby that she pursues, singing has remained an important part of her life and she can often be heard belting out lyrics from her favorite singer, Alicia Keys.

After graduating from Westlake High School in 2015, Brown decided to experience life outside of the Lone Star State and moved to Tucson, Arizona where she enrolled in the University of Arizona and majored in psychology. However, the call to home always echoed in her mind and after two years in Arizona, she returned home to pursue a public relations degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. However, as Brown got more involved in public relations, her interest in the subject diminished, and was replaced by her newfound passion, advertising. Brown’s interest in advertising stems from the creative aspect of the profession, and believes that she might, at last, have found her calling.
